Day Eighteen: Munich to Prague

It was a very weary group that got onto the bus this morning, particularly one tour manager who had drunk five steins at the Beer Hall the previous morning. So it was no wonder that everyone was cheering when we pulled into our first service stop three hours later; McDonalds.

There was some beautiful scenery as we drove through the pine-tree filled Czech Republic. We arrived in the capital city of Prague mid-afternoon and were dropped off at St Vitus Cathedral and Hradcany Castle. We’d managed to arrive just on time to see the changing of the guards so we followed the soldiers as they marched and looked at us with reluctant expressions. We wandered down the cobbled streets taking in some breathtaking views of the city as the weather was clear enough for us to see around.

Next stop was Charles Bridge where we rubbed the statue of the Czech saint of floods, John of Nepomuk. He is considered to be the first confessional martyr as he was pushed from the bridge into the river for not revealing the Queen of Bohemia’s confessional. We both rubbed the gold part of the statue, where legend has it your wish will come true. Then it was down into the old square to the astronomical clock. I got stuck in the middle of the road for a while before the traffic lights changed, and then it was down to the hotel and the fun baggage-carrying walk.

As we got in late, it was a quiet evening after that. We ate a provided dinner at the hotel then it was time for some YouTube fun where we educated Tiffany on the best of Australian pranks; the Chaser at APEC.
